Susan Matta of Austin: Deep In the Heart of Texas

Susan Matta of Austin has, in just a few short years, gone from being a university student dreaming of all that was still to come, to realizing some of her most dearly held lifelong dreams.

Susan Matta of Austin grew up in the small town of Sandpoint, Idaho. Very early in life she knew that she loved art, and that she somehow wanted to make it her career. Toward that goal, Susan Matta of Austin enrolled in the University of Idaho, where she majored in art. After completing her undergraduate studies, she received her degree in Art and Design in May of 2010.

Almost immediately, Susan Matta of Austin found a job at one of the best university art museums in the United States. She was hired to work at the Jack S. Blanton Art Museum, a museum and research center at the University of Texas, Austin. Susan Matta of Austin relocated to deep in the heart of Texas and immersed herself in the Blanton’s magnificent collection of art: works ranging from paintings by European masters to modern and contemporary pieces by American and Latin American artists.

As appealing to her as the Blanton Museum is, Susan Matta of Austin has found that her adopted hometown has a lot more to offer than that. Austin is the capital of Texas, and also has one of the most energetic live music scenes in the United States.

Susan Matta of Austin will never forget her life in Sandpoint, Idaho. But for now, she is thrilled to be living and working in a city with a dynamic art scene.

Susan Matta of Austin Visits the Texas State Capitol

One of the first stops that Susan Matta of Austin made upon arriving in Austin was the Texas State Capitol Building. The downtown area immediately called Susan Matta of Austin’s name and she was on her way to experiencing this iconic structure. The Texas State Capitol Building is the fourth home to the Texas state government. Susan Matta of Austin was excited to learn that the building both housed the Texas Legislature and the Governor’s office. The Texas State Capitol was built between 1882 and 1888 with a $75 million underground extension being added in 1993. Susan Matta of Austin was interested to learn that the Texas State Capitol Building is part of the National Register of Historic Places and has also been recognized as a historic landmark. The size of the building impressed Susan Matta of Austin, standing at 308 feet tall. This makes the building the sixth tallest capitol building in the United States.

Being the art enthusiast that she is, Susan Matta of Austin enjoyed the portraits that hung in the Texas State Capitol building of those who had been a part of the Texas State Government. Susan Matta of Austin was also pleased to discover a portrait of Davy Crockett, along with other paintings and sculptures. Her favorite part of the Texas State Capitol building was definitely the whispering gallery. On her way out of the building, Susan Matta of Austin spotted a monument of the Ten Commandments.  She knew that this monument had been controversial in 2005, and Susan Matta of Austin was happy to see that the monument remained in place.
